FOR VISITORS TO BUENOS AIRES

Airport arrival:


Once you exit the customs area, the best thing to do is to go to one of the desks that face this exit, who offer "remises" (chauffered limousine service). The tariff to get downtown is around U$S 17.00, and the ride is about 25 minutes. Avoid taking a taxi offered by people walking around the hall area.

Money exchange:

As you exit the customs gate, the Banco de la Nación Argentina is on your right. In the downtown area there are plenty of banks and exchange agencies available. The U.S. dollar is freely traded at a rate close to 3 argentine pesos per 1 dollar.

Taxis downtown:

Taxis have a meter which displays the fare, there are no additional charges or conversions. Taxis are abundant and cheap, and you should always choose one which is identified as a "Radio Taxi", and once you have taken it, make sure the driver turns on the meter. Tipping is optional, and not a habit with the locals. A Radio Taxi can be called by phone, a good company being "PIDALO" at phones - 4956-1200 or 4932-2222.

Subways:

There are five subway lines in Buenos Aires which are clean and safe. The fare is uniform and costs pesos $ 0.70.

Tipping:

Restaurants do not include a service charge in the bill, and 10% - 15% is customary.

Credit Cards:

Mostly accepted in shops and restaurants, but it's wise to check before buying or eating.

The climate in Buenos Aires:

The week of August 21st. is towards the end of winter in Buenos Aires, so temperatures will be between 8 and 17 degrees C.

Travel out to airport for retun trip:

It is a good idea to have the hotel order a vehicle. Alternatively a Radio Taxi costs around
Pesos $ 30.
